Maslenitsa rites. Shrovetide: the history of the holiday, traditions and customs

Shrovetide, like any folk holiday rich in ceremonial and ritual actions. It is in them that the secret and beauty of the holiday lies.

Many are trying to keep the ancient traditions. But in most cases, pancake traditions and the holiday of farewell to winter itself, that is, the burning of a scarecrow, are held in high esteem.

Food customs and symbols of Maslenitsa

The holiday before the start of Lent was named.

For a whole week, people try to bake as many pancakes as possible and treat them to all their friends, acquaintances, and relatives.

Exactly . Since ancient times they were baked from wheat, buckwheat, rye flour. Pancakes were served with sour cream, jam, honey and, most importantly, butter and cottage cheese.

After all, it is customary to eat more dairy products on Shrove Tuesday. Therefore, cottage cheese and butter, cheese and milk, sour cream and curdled milk, fermented baked milk and milk jelly are constantly present on the tables.

And here the church traditions converged and folk rituals. According to the church calendar, a week is considered a cheese week. In fact, this is preparation for food abstinence. From the very beginning of Maslenitsa week, use any meat products Absolutely forbidden.

But the tradition to lean on dairy products appeared long before the Baptism of Rus'. And this is due to the fact that it was at the end of winter that cows calved. So there was plenty of milk.

But the meat stocks were coming to an end. But slaughtering livestock at the time when the offspring is expected was stupid and inexpedient.

Therefore, dairy products became the basis of the diet. The traditions took root and migrated to the church culture of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Maslenitsa holiday - rites Kolodiya

The name Kolodiy has even more ancient roots than Shrovetide. The rite of "reel life" mostly comes from the territories of Ukraine and Belarus.

So, Monday was dedicated to her "birth", on Tuesday the carols were "baptized". Wednesday was associated with all life moments. And already on Thursday the block was to die. On Friday there was a feast ceremony - a funeral with ritual songs, plentiful meals. On Saturday, they “mourned” the block. And on Sunday was the culmination of the holiday.

Throughout the celebration of Maslenitsa, the Block was worn around the village. The goal was to tie a costumed doll to singles and unmarried people.

But there was a redemption option. In order not to disgrace, young men and women hung beads and ribbons on the doll.

And the women themselves were given drinks and snacks. And so it turned out that by the end of the week, when Shrovetide was being sent off, the doll was all hung with beads and decorated with multi-colored ribbons.

Marriage and women's rites on Maslenitsa

Why women? Yes, because the holiday primordially had a certain “femininity”. Even among the people you can find the name Maslenitsa as Babskaya week.

Most of the traditions and rituals for Maslenitsa are associated with the fair sex.

It is considered a good omen to conduct matchmaking on Maslenitsa.

It was customary to carry out matchmaking especially fun with ditties and games on Maslenitsa, with sleigh rides around the village, and sledding from hills. In ancient times, it was customary to walk this week and weddings. However, the Christian Church forbids marriage on Shrove Tuesday.

Such rituals are connected with the cult of fertility. That is why attention was focused on women's existence.

Virginity was praised by beautiful girls, brides. Motherhood was extolled by a woman-mother, a woman-guardian. They worshiped the wisdom of an old woman, women advisers.

However, negative female qualities also did not pass by. What is the son-in-law saying: “Drink, good people, so that my mother-in-law does not dry up in her throat!”.

Yes, this is still at a time when the mother-in-law with the guests at the son-in-law at gatherings. Such a hint of mother's talkativeness. And in general, all the elements of adventures such as "sister-in-law gatherings" belong to the "women's" part of the holiday.

Pancakes as part of the funeral rite

However, traditional pancakes have a funeral origin. In ancient Slavic traditions, it was to invite ancestors to the table to take part in the meal. And pancakes were considered funeral bread with deep symbolism. Its round shape hints at eternity, the warmth of pancakes is an earthly joy, and products such as milk, flour, water are a direct message about life.

There was also a special ritual that confirms the funeral origin of pancakes. The very first pancake baked on Maslenitsa is intended to "treat the dead."

To do this, he was placed in the attic on the dormer window.

Also on the first day of Maslenitsa, it was customary to distribute pancakes to the poor so that they could commemorate the dead.

Hence the saying: "The first pancake for peace."

One of the elements of the funeral rite was fisticuffs. Or games were held on Maslenitsa, associated with the capture of snowy cities. Such fun at first glance is completely harmless.

However, earlier these funs were quite dangerous. Some fellows even paid off with their own lives. Special training was carried out. The men took a steam bath before the fight and said goodbye to their relatives.

They fought to the point of blood, although there was no purpose to kill. Blood symbolized sacrifice to the spirits of the dead, as well as to the gods.

For men, it was a way to release energy, riot, rollicking, filled with a special sacred meaning.

Another rather piquant ritual was held in the north of Russia, in particular in the Arkhangelsk provinces. The stewards of the holiday were necessarily appointed: “Voevoda” and “Maslenitsa”. On the last day of the festive week, the stewards went around the village, and after that, on the square, where all the inhabitants gathered, they undressed and began to imitate washing in the bath with their peculiar movements in the nude. Only the Voevoda could really take off his clothes, and already in the nude, push his fiery speeches, which ended the festivities.

What was the meaning of such a strange "striptease"? First of all, philosophical. In this way, the symbols of death, birth, conception were emphasized. After all, a person is born completely naked, and conception takes place in the nude. Yes, and a man with a naked soul dies - he cannot take with him anything that belongs to him during his lifetime.

Burning Shrovetide is another rite that combines funeral and agricultural traditions.

The scarecrow itself was a sacred sacrifice that was brought to the gods. The bonfire symbolized the funeral fire. Be sure to dance around the fire on Maslenitsa. Moreover, all the inhabitants of the village gathered for dancing, from young to old. This is such a primitive dance on Maslenitsa was akin to ritual funeral dances at the feast. In addition, the meaning of the ritual was also to say goodbye to winter, which was burned. It was in the winter that the feast was held.

But the ashes left from the fire were scattered across the fields, while prayers were said that sanctified the land. The gods were asked for harvests and good weather.

Sacred meaning was also invested in the songs for Maslenitsa. The girls walked through forests, groves, along the banks of reservoirs and sang stoneflies and ditties about Maslenitsa. In this way, both spring itself and the forces of good were invoked. People asked Nature itself to give a blessing for the new harvest year.

To make the year rich, it was customary to organize festivities on Maslenitsa, which lasted all week. So, there was a sign that the more times you ride a sleigh down the mountain, the better the flax harvest will be.

And still necessarily break tables. And under no circumstances should you refuse food. Every day people went to visit guests, for which special names were invented for each day of the week. There was a belief that the more satisfying the Maslenitsa holiday itself was, the more fruitful the year itself would be. Therefore, Maslenitsa was a holiday of gluttony.

Today folk traditions are being revived. And Shrovetide has become one of the most beloved holidays. And for some, this is a great occasion to remember those rituals that were performed by our ancestors. Here are some of the most successful rituals that can be repeated to contemporaries in an attempt to attract good luck, love or wealth. After all, you can not only have fun during Maslenitsa, but also try to take advantage of folk traditions.

So, a ritual to attract wealth. Such a ceremony is held outside the city, preferably in the forest. A fire is kindled in which you need to burn any old things. It turns out that the road to the new is opening while the old is being burned.

But do not forget about the conspiracy that needs to be pronounced while things are burning:

“In life, I open the door to a new one,

Burning unnecessary and old things,

Let all unnecessary go away

And Maslenitsa brings me profit and good luck.

An interesting rite of passage to attract money. It will definitely help you get rich quick without much effort. To do this, you need to go out the next day after the Sunday festivities to the square where the effigy was burned. That is, on Monday you go to the public square and walk there until you find any coin. You need to raise a coin with a virgin hand, while pronouncing a special conspiracy:

“I was a servant of God (your name) walking, I found a coin on my way. As I came to this money, let the money come into my hands on their own. Let how many people were for the holidays, I will have so much money. Amen!"

This coin must be taken home with you. It cannot be spent or given to anyone. They keep the coin until the next Maslenitsa. Exactly one year later, this coin must be thrown away during Forgiveness Sunday at the same place where it was found.

This ritual is suitable for those girls who cannot find their happiness, but dream of marriage. It will help you find your soul mate and find happiness.

You just need not to miss the day of festivities. On Sunday, go to the noisiest square in your village, where many people have gathered to burn Maslenitsa. Stand among this crowd and slowly repeat the plot to yourself:

“Shrovetide has come, brought joy to everyone. Bring Maslenitsa happiness into my life, send me my fate. Let a worthy person meet on my way and call me down the aisle. May it be so. Amen".

Do not forget to cross yourself three times after this. And the dream of marriage will soon become a reality.

Love rituals: love spell on Maslenitsa

But for those sufferers whose heart has already known love, but the beloved remains indifferent, does not notice it, a special Maslenitsa love spell will come in handy. Pancakes will help to kindle passion in the soul and heart of a guy. But not ordinary, but mixed with holy water.

When preparing the dough, the girl must read the love spell:

“I’m baking pancakes, I want you to like it. As spring comes to us with Maslenitsa, the sun warms, and the snow melts, so the heart of the servant of God (name) will melt to me, the servant of God (name). He will think of me and miss me. To grieve and grieve without me. As I say, so be it. Amen"

Now you can bake pancakes and invite your loved one for a treat.

Having tasted the ritual cooking of the young woman, the guy will definitely not remain indifferent to her.

There are many rituals associated with pancakes. One of them is carried out for the health of all relatives.

Pancakes are baked from the usual dough. But directly during baking in a pan, you need to pronounce the following words:

“I fry pancakes, I add health to myself. As these pancakes get rosy, so do I get healthier. May health come to me, and all ailments go away. My word is strong, but my deed is sculpted. Amen".

You need to taste such pancakes yourself and treat all your relatives.

Whether or not to conduct rituals, ceremonies and conspiracies associated with Maslenitsa is a personal matter for everyone. But you should definitely try holiday pancakes. After all, Great Lent will begin very soon, when recipes using milk, butter and cheese will be banned. For experienced housewives and beginners in cooking, we offer you to get acquainted with an interesting selection of pancake recipes in the article “Pancake Recipes for Maslenitsa”.

  1. Rituals and ceremonies for Shrovetide .

Away Winter! Long live Spring! Do you already feel the heat and the sun coming? How fresh and joyful is it around? And even if a cold wind is still blowing outside the window and snow is falling, spring is already on the way ... and with it the most magical time of transition - Shrovetide!

Everyone knows that pancakes should be baked on Maslenitsa. But today, few people associate a hearty holiday with its ancient sacred meaning. But if you remember this, it becomes clear that the week of Maslenitsa festivities is a great time to conduct rituals to attract love and prosperity. Maslenitsa marks the farewell to winter and is celebrated widely and cheerfully.

Pancakes are the main delicacy in this wild week. They look like the sun and represent joy and prosperity. It is believed that the lives of those who try pancakes for Shrove Tuesday will definitely change for the better. I suggest adding even more magic to them!

Now this week of Maslenitsa falls on different dates: according to the church calendar, it takes place before the start of Lent. But this is a very ancient holiday, familiar to the Slavs from pagan times. And long ago it was celebrated on the vernal equinox, on which many nations had a new year. The essence of this holiday is renewal. The old, decrepit was dying, people celebrated feasts over it and welcomed the beginning of the new life cycle. It is no coincidence that the main dish at Maslenitsa is pancakes: it was this food of the Slavs that was commemorative.

By the way, in Christian times, it is customary to dedicate the first pancake baked on Maslenitsa to the departed. This is relatively recent - in the XIX century - scientists of the so-called "mythological school" invented that pancake was a symbol of the sun among the Slavic peoples. Nothing like this. They were treated to pancakes at the wake. In the case of the cheese week, the commemoration was celebrated according to the dying year.

It was also customary to turn to the patronage and protection of the ancestors - after all, they were already in the Kingdom of the Dead, where the past went. And the birth of a new year, the beginning of a new spring

Our ancestors also associated human fertility with the fertility of the earth, so brides, conspiracies, joint festivities of boys and girls took place on Maslenitsa. And family people honored relatives in every possible way: mother-in-law - sons-in-law and matchmakers, daughter-in-law - mother-in-law with father-in-law and sister-in-law. Unmarried girls told fortunes about love, luring the betrothed; good hostesses performed rituals for prosperity and well-being, protecting the house from adversity.

    Try to do some magic.
Here are a few simple rituals (both ancient and modern) for which Maslenitsa week is a great time!

    Charm from witches

On the first day of Shrovetide, a conspiracy was read that helped get rid of the effects of evil witch spells:

    You witches, branded she-devils,
when you count the stars in the sky and the grains of sand in the sea,
then you can cause harm me,
    my home and my family.
As I said, so it is and so it will be!

    money pancakes

When you point the dough at the pancakes, throw a large denomination coin into it (for example, for Russia it will be 10 rubles) and say:

“Money dough for money pancakes. Whoever eats a pancake gets a lot of money.” May it be so!

After you bake pancakes, be sure to try at least one "hot-hot". And spend the coin during the day.

Monetary conspiracy during the burning of the effigy of Maslenitsa

Be sure to go to the celebration when they burn the effigy of Maslenitsa. As they begin to burn Shrovetide, stand closer to the fire so that sweat breaks through you, and wipe your face from sweat with a handkerchief. Say these words to yourself:

    "Seven sweats run from me,
    hunger-cold go away,
    fire rise up
    spring, start
    What's on fire won't be
    and I walk in gold.
    Truly!"

  2. Burning negative

This ritual is based on a ready-made basis - I liked the idea with threads and the subsequent burning of the "chrysalis of trouble", I finalized it and made changes. The ritual was held last year - both the customer and I were satisfied with the result.

    What do you need:

    small cardboard box
about 30 - 50 cm natural threads of the following colors:
    gray thread
    black threads
    brown thread
    burgundy threads
    dark purple thread
    marsh threads
    small piece of red thread
salt bought according to the rules
A non-church wax candle bought on Women's Day (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday), if the ritual is performed by a woman,
or on the male (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) - if a man.)
You can make a cleaning one yourself with the addition of herbs, resins, oils, if you are not too lazy - thereby enhancing the effect of the ritual)

If your life is like a series of troubles and failures, then you must definitely carry out this ritual to expel negativity from your life.
To do this, at dawn on Monday, take gray threads and say to them:

“Troubles, go away and take away hardships, and you, joy, come and bring me happiness!”

“Maslenitsa will protect from all evil,
All evil and evil from me (name) will turn away.
On the first day, every evil eye will be reflected from me.
On the second day, all corruption will evaporate from me.
On the third day, the evil plot will be broken into pieces.
On the fourth day, everything will respond to the offenders.
On the fifth day, evil thoughts will turn to dust.
On the sixth day, all my troubles will cease.
On the seventh, luck and strength will return to me.

Then these threads need to be put in boxes and hidden in a secluded place.

On Tuesday, do the same at the same hour, just take black threads., pronounce the words and then read the plot. After reading the conspiracy words, add black threads to gray ones.
On Wednesday, repeat the ritual with brown threads, on Thursday with burgundy threads, on Friday with dark purple threads, and on Saturday with swamp-colored threads.
On Sunday, before sunrise, make a figure out of the threads, tying them in two places with a red thread: you should get a head and a torso ..
Then you need to pour salt on a refractory dish, insert a candle into the salt "slide". Now light a candle and start burning this chrysalis of trouble over its flame. At the same time, read the plot:

Together with this doll I drive away all the bad
I burn the old, unnecessary on the flame of a candle,
Let all the obsolete leave and not return back,
Let everything dashing and unnecessary turn into ashes!
    May it be so!

Let it burn completely, throw the waste into the toilet and flush.
Read until the doll figurine burns out completely. How many times you do not need to read the plot! Do not extinguish the candle, let it burn out completely.
Along with the destruction of this figure, the troubles from your life will also go away.

  3. A ceremony to restore relationships.

Shrovetide has another aspect - cleansing.
Everything old and bad is forgotten and destroyed. Thanks to this, with the help of a simple rite on Maslenitsa, you can restore a damaged relationship with your spouse.
While making pancakes, repeat the words:

    "Light Shrovetide, Great Shrovetide,
Illuminate souls, from anger, from resentment, free from quarrels.
May our love again be as pure as snow,
as clear as the sun, as hot as fire.

Divide the first cooked pancake into three parts. Give the first one to your spouse. Eat the other one yourself. Feed the third to the birds - this is thanksgiving to Maslenitsa.

Maslenitsa lasts a week, and of course, our ancestors did not miss such an opportunity not only to have a good and fun time, treat themselves to delicious dishes of the Maslenitsa holiday, but also to conduct a series of rituals and rituals to achieve their material and personal goals.

The most popular in modern times are several categories of rituals that allow you to solve the problems of family, love and marriage, agriculture and prosperity. Funeral rituals are also held at this time.

Shrovetide rituals for a good harvest and wealth

It is customary to celebrate Shrove Tuesday with a large number of pancakes. They went on a visit with them, met guests, treated passers-by, acquaintances and relatives. But the most first-baked pancake was not given to anyone. It was presented as a gift to Yarila and Spring, for which on Monday or any other day of Maslenitsa, except for Forgiveness Sunday, it was taken out into the field and laid on the ground. Thus, urging the Sun to warm up the fields more strongly, and Spring-Red to come faster.

On Maslenitsa week it was also customary to ride the slides. Moreover, Olympiad competitions were organized: whoever slides further on the rolled ice will have a larger harvest of flax and other crops. Therefore, they prepared for these competitions in advance, sharpened the runners of the sledge and skates, trained, choosing the optimal acceleration speed and weight of the riders.

In addition, Maslenitsa, like the New Year, is a holiday of gluttony. Moreover, it is believed that the more varied and satisfying it is, the richer the next year will be.

Also, until the very Forgiveness Sunday, it was customary to conduct rituals to attract wealth and prosperity.

How to attract wealth into your life, Shrovetide ritual

Kindle a fire and burn in it all your old and long-unused, due to their uselessness, things. So you get rid of not only junk and rubbish and you can open the way for everything new. And while they burn in this purifying fire, say three times:

How to attract money, a money ritual for Shrovetide

At the end of Shrovetide week, and most conveniently after it, on Monday, you need to visit the place where the festivities took place on Forgiveness Sunday. And walk around until you find some metal money. Its denomination does not matter, the main thing is a coin. Raise it with your left hand and say three times:

Then, bring the coin home, find a secluded place and keep it there until the next Forgiveness Sunday. And when the next Maslenitsa festivities come, take it back and try to leave it in the same place where you found it.

Family and marriage ceremonies during Shrove Tuesday

Pancake week was traditionally dedicated to strengthening family ties. For those who just got married, the so-called "brides" were arranged. They consisted in the fact that the newlyweds in full view of the whole street had to kiss repeatedly. And the girls who were married for a little, no more than a year, had to carry their single girlfriends on a sleigh, while singing funny couplets and ditties.

Friday was dedicated to strengthening marriage unions, for this purpose, the son-in-law went to his mother-in-law for pancakes, where she took care of him in full growth, praised him in every possible way and tried to please.

For single guys who have reached the age of marriage, but still not married, a kind of punishment was invented. They had to walk around the entire Shrovetide week with a block around their neck, to which a log was tied. In addition, they became objects of general ridicule. Therefore, bachelors, like unmarried girls, gladly resorted to various rituals during Shrovetide week aimed at getting married as soon as possible. The following rite was considered the most popular due to its effectiveness:

Rite of marriage / marriage on Maslenitsa

It is held on Forgiveness Sunday. To conduct it, you need to come to a crowded place where the holiday is celebrated, and, being among people having fun, read the following words three times:

Funeral rites and rituals for Maslenitsa

Like all the rituals described above, funeral rituals are associated with the baking of pancakes, that is, they are relevant only on Shrovetide week. Baked fish is considered a traditional dish for commemoration. With her dumbness, she personifies the souls of the dead (according to folk culture).

For divination for the future, marriage and childbearing, snow was always used, and pancakes were made on melted snow water. According to also folk beliefs, snow personifies the souls of the dead, and using it in rituals is a kind of commemoration of the dead.

Due to the fact that during Shrovetide week the souls of deceased relatives are nearby, so as not to harm them somehow, it was forbidden to spin and weave. And the evening hours should be entirely devoted to prayer, remembrance, appeasing the spirits and preparing food for the next day.

Even the traditional Maslenitsa bonfire was a means of commemorating the dead. It was a kind of invitation for the deceased ancestors to a hearty dinner on the eve of Lent..

Many people are anxiously awaiting the onset of Maslenitsa, the traditions of celebrating which go deep into our history. As in the old days, this holiday is celebrated on a grand scale, with chants, dances and competitions.

On Maslenitsa, young men showed their agility in a fistfight

The most popular pastimes that used to be held in the villages were: fisticuffs, eating pancakes for a while, sleigh rides, climbing a pole for a prize, playing with a bear, burning a scarecrow, swimming in an ice hole. The main treat both before and now are pancakes, which can have various fillings. They are baked every day in large quantities.

In fact, Maslenitsa is a pagan holiday, which was eventually changed to the "format" of the Orthodox Church. In pre-Christian Rus', the celebration was called "Seeing off the winter."

Our ancestors revered the sun as God, which is why the tradition of baking round cakes resembling the sun appeared. It was believed that by eating such a dish, a person would receive a piece of sunlight and warmth. Over time, flat cakes were replaced with pancakes.

Pancake week

Our ancestors knew that if you had fun on Maslenitsa, you would live the coming year richly and joyfully. Over the centuries, customs, rituals, ceremonies and conspiracies have developed that were held on Shrovetide and had great power.

Shrovetide is an ancient Slavic holiday that has survived to this day from the time of pagan culture. Initially, it was associated with the day of the spring solstice, but after the adoption of Christianity, Shrovetide began to be celebrated on the week preceding Lent.

The Book of Veles describes the Red Hill holiday, which was celebrated for a whole month until the spring solstice, and Maslenitsa is the first week of Red Hill. So it was possible for modern historians to connect the day of the spring solstice and the beginning of Shrovetide.

Signs for Maslenitsa

Shrovetide should be celebrated richly, generously and cheerfully. You should not skimp on treats, because as you spend the holiday, the God of the Sun will be favorable to you.

  • The more pancakes are baked on Maslenitsa, the richer it will become in the house. You can not skimp on treats, otherwise you can suffer big losses. It is believed that it is the arrival of unexpected guests that will bring happiness to the house. If the hostess bakes few pancakes, then there will be no harvest.
  • Each baked pancake was associated with the sun, i.e. the more pancakes you get, the more sunny days you will have. However, too many pancakes can lead to drought. Therefore, a golden mean is needed.
  • If the hostess’s pancakes turned out to be lush and ruddy, the year will be good and rich in harvest, and if they stick together and don’t work out, then expect trouble.
  • On Maslenitsa, the mother-in-law must definitely invite her son-in-law to pancakes. If he likes the treat, then a year will pass in peace and love.
  • In the old days, swings were built on Maslenitsa. Whoever flies the highest will have the largest harvest. The same applies to downhill skiing - whoever manages to go the farthest will have a successful year.
  • If it was cloudy before Maslenitsa, then in the fall there will be a good harvest of mushrooms, and if it was frosty, then the summer will be warm.
  • If you get rid of old things on Maslenitsa, then this year expect new things.
  • If on Forgiveness Sunday you can forgive old grievances, then open your life to new good and bright events.

Customs for Maslenitsa

Eating the first pancake on Maslenitsa, you need to remember the deceased relatives.

On Maslenitsa, children whistled into whistles made in the shape of birds. In this way, they called back migratory birds that flew away to warmer climes for the winter.

A straw scarecrow of winter is an essential attribute of Maslenitsa. It was installed on a pole and all mass events were held around it during the week, and on Sunday the effigy was burned. This ritual symbolized not only the farewell to winter, but was also carried out in order to get rid of everything unnecessary and bad.

Previously, there was a custom according to which, on the last day of the holiday, the father-in-law invited his son-in-law to visit “finish the ram”, i.e. taste meat dishes for the last time before the start of Lent.

Before sunset on Sunday, they went to the churchyard, left pancakes on the graves of relatives and bowed to the ashes of their ancestors.

It was forbidden to weave and spin on Maslenitsa. It was believed that such actions can disturb the souls of the deceased ancestors, who are invisibly next to us during Shrovetide week.

All the food prepared for the holiday on Sunday was tried to be eaten or distributed.

Shrovetide bonfire is a kind of funeral ritual that served as a kind of invitation for the souls of the departed to a hearty dinner.

Will not return to me again. Truly"

Removing damage to Shrovetide

To remove damage to Shrovetide, you need to collect clean snow in a basin, preferably melted. Bring it into the house and run it around yourself from head to toe (moving from top to bottom). During this, read the plot:

“Come out, pour out of the body of the Servant of God (name) all that is bad. From a zealous heart, from a violent head, from a white body, from a clean belly, from red blood, from legs, from hands, from veins. I do not exorcise damage and the evil eye, but Holy Mother of God with their archangels, angels and patrons at every hour, every day, from now on and forever! Amen!".

From the remaining snow you need to fashion a little man. Draw his nose, mouth, eyes, navel and write your name on it in reverse. After that, read the conspiracy 33 times: “Let the one who spoiled the servant of God (name) brought, she will return. May all his wishes be reflected on him. I never wished evil on anyone, and the one who wished me, let his evil come back. Amen".

After the ritual, wait for the snow man to melt and pour out all the remaining water at the crossroads. This must be done on the same day.

Conspiracy from envy

As you know, envy is a very bad feeling that eats from the inside not only the person experiencing it, but also has a bad effect on the object that is envied. On the last day of Maslenitsa, you can read a conspiracy from envy that will protect you for the whole year.

A conspiracy from a witch, a sorcerer and bad people

To protect yourself from negative magical effects for the whole year, it is necessary on the first day of Maslenitsa, looking out the window at the starry sky, to read the plot three times:

“No sorcerer, no witch can harm me and my house until they count all the stars in the sky. Let all the bad things go away and only good things come into my house. Amen".

After that, pour three pinches of salt on the windowsill, and the same amount at the front door.

When Forgiveness Sunday comes, wait for sunset and sweep all the salt into a bag, while reading "Our Father". Then bury the bag of salt as far away from your home as possible.

This conspiracy will protect your home and you from the evil spells of any sorcerer.

Cleansing the house with snow (only done on the waning moon)

Bring snow into the house, wait until it melts. Take melt water and wash the floor in the house, saying:

“Voditsa flows along rapids and roads, melt water, clean water. It washes the steep banks, it helps me, the Servant of God (name), it washes away all my misfortunes and troubles. I will wash away curses and damage with melt water, bad luck and poverty, dark evil and misfortune. I will cleanse my house of everything bad and evil. Amen".

To enhance the effect, you can add Thursday salt to the water. After cleaning, water must be poured out onto the street, preferably at an intersection. Returning home, go without looking back, and without talking to anyone. When you get home, light three candles:

green for money;

gold for health;

Bake pancakes from this dough. Before you serve them, read more spoken words on a drink:

“Let the servant of God (name) drink this drink and not notice anyone but me. Only I will be alone in his heart and thoughts, and all other women against my background will fade and fade. May it be so. Amen".

On Forgiveness Sunday, before going to bed, read the plot:

“Sparkle a clear star in the night sky, to the joy of the baptized world, burn with an unquenchable fire for the joy of the Orthodox people. Look star into my house and sanctify it with unquenchable fire. Hear my desire (briefly say what you want). Amen".
